Clear definitions for common health, nutrition and evidence terms used across MedixVeda.

Antioxidant

A substance that can help limit oxidative reactions. The term alone does not prove a product prevents disease.

Bioavailability

The extent and rate at which a substance becomes available to the body; formulation can influence it.

Botanical

A plant or plant-derived material used as food, traditional preparation or supplement.

Contraindication

A circumstance in which a medicine, supplement or procedure may be unsuitable because risk could outweigh benefit.

Evidence

Information from observation and research used to judge how confident we can be in a claim.

Interaction

When one medicine, supplement, food or substance changes the effect, exposure or safety of another.

Micronutrient

A vitamin or mineral needed in relatively small amounts for normal physiological functions.

Randomized controlled trial

A study design that randomly assigns participants to interventions to reduce bias when comparing outcomes.

Systematic review

A structured synthesis that searches for and evaluates relevant studies using predefined methods.

Traditional use

Historical or cultural use of a preparation. Traditional use is not the same as proof from modern clinical trials.
